Movies, movies, movies

Well, my first class online is ending this week, and it looks like it's ending with a bang. Just two things that I have to submit (a paper and a powerpoint presentation) and it's done. @whee. Such fun.

Meanwhile, I've been watching a lot of Turner Classic Movies. If you haven't noticed, it's their 31 days of Oscar marathon. 31 days of movies with not a single repeat anywhere. If I had a recorder, I'd be making a lot of tapes/dvd's at the moment. And I mean a lot. Take for instance the lineup of films on the 26th of this month: Fiddler on the Roof, Sense and Sensibility, Moonstruck, Field of Dreams, The Color Purple, Out of Africa, Rain Man, Kramer vs. Kramer. All in Letterbox format. Talk about getting serious celluloid poisoning after a while. Peter Travers in Rolling Stone magazine talked about having lost over 200 hours of his life in 100 of the worst films of the year... this is how you get all that back. *chuckle*

Since I got 3/4ths of my master's degree by long distance, I have to ask: what do you think of long-distance learning? {SMILE} I liked it, but most of mine were interactive TV. It sounds like that's a bit different than what you've been taking. {BIG SMILE}

Turner Classic Movies so utterly rocks!
Especially since AMC started airing nasty icky-poo commercials and EDITING FILMS!
Whassup wit dat!?!?

AMC was bought a couple of years ago by Viacom. One of their first acts was to get rid of Robert Osborne, now at Turner Classic Movies. This was followed by a decision to dump most all movies prior to 1960, and then added commercials. Then the recent branding and logo change. Now, they're no different than USA, FX, TNN/Spike, or any other commerical cable channel. I shot them a really nasty letter when they went to commercials, but never once received a reply back.

Ah well, I still have one outlet for movies as they're meant to be seen.
