Jackpot Days!!

Sometimes the greatest pleasure is coming home from work and finding you've got all sorts of pretty things waiting in the mailbox.  As I've commented previously, I'm collecting casino chips, Canadian coins and stamps, and porcelain figures among other things.  Well, today I received a most excellent item...

Back in 1983 NASA and the USPS conspired to do something unique.  They took a whole batch of envelopes (all of which had the STS-8 mission emblem on it), slapped a USPS Express Mail stamp on each one ($9.95), then loaded them into canisters... and shot them into space with the STS-8 mission (Challenger).  And in the hold they sat for 7 days from launch to landing... then were sold through the USPS.  Each one is serialized, and depending on what site you look at, the cost varies from $25 to $75.  I got mine for all of $21, and it'll probably sit somewhere close by, where I can look at it and know that while I can't go into space, something I own DID.
