An ironic obituary...

... for this month is African-American History month. And one of the few truly distinctive voices in science-fiction died, Octavia Butler. Her work was very different from the norm within the genre, with her approaches towards race and gender. I only have one book of hers, "Wild Seed", but I've read "Kindred" and several others whose titles escape me at the moment. The fact that she was black or female didn't matter, she wrote with a style and tone that made hers quite wonderful to escape into.

A moment of silence for one of the truly unique ones. She may not have been prolific in her work, but what she did produce may be read for decades to come.
