It's the quiet before the storm...

...that I fear the most.

This morning was one of those rare summertime mornings, when it was nice, clear blue skies, coolish temperatures, no wind. And you think to yourself that Mother Nature is a lying, deceitful wench who is trying to lull you into a sense of complacency right before she comes plowing through the area with a bulldozer the size of Rhode Island.

So far the expected landfall location remains locked at around the Florida/Alabama coastline, around Perdido Key, right where Ivan went in at. Since Dennis will be a strong Category 3 (winds 120mph with gusts to 140) we're going to get a sizable effect here in FWB. My personal gut feeling is that Dennis is really going to make landfall around Pensacola Beach or slightly east of there, about 20 miles east of where the NHC forecasts. Either way, life is going to be quite interesting.

I'm already prepping the digital cameras for use. The Kodak DX6490 likely will be heavily used, but once power goes out I'll probably switch to the AA-battery powered Concord EyeQ. It's not as good with the pictures, but it doesn't take much to see the damage.

Days like today I wish I still had a radio gig. Or working amateur radio.
